You’d think getting a positive result on a pregnancy test is all you need to tell if you’re pregnant or not. Actually, before you can make a decision about your unexpected pregnancy, you still need more information. We can give you that information with a free ultrasound scan.

What Is An Ultrasound?

There are two types of ultrasounds, transabdominal and transvaginal. In a transabdominal ultrasound, our licensed OB/GYN or Sonographer rubs a gel over your abdomen.

A wand-like device called a transducer is rubbed over the gel on your abdomen. The transducer picks up the echoes of sound waves that bounce in your abdomen and creates an image.

What Will An Ultrasound Tell You?

If you’re considering abortion, you’ll need to know how far along your pregnancy is. The number of weeks determines what type of abortion procedure you’re eligible for. Ultrasound measure the size of the fetus which is a good indication of the length of your pregnancy.

Ultrasound shows whether or not you’ve had a miscarriage too. If you haven’t miscarried, it will pick up a heartbeat. This lets you know the fetus is growing.

Finally, there is a possibility that your pregnancy is not located in the right area. Sometimes, the fertilized egg implants outside of the uterus. This is called an ectopic pregnancy which is extremely dangerous to your health. You’ll want to see your health care provider immediately.
