We Offer Free and Confidential Pregnancy Tests

If you suspect you might be pregnant, the first step is to take a pregnancy test. You can purchase an over-the-counter test or you can come to the Pregnancy Care Center and take one for free. We promise to keep your visit and the results of your test strictly confidential.

Is An At-Home Test Reliable?

At-home pregnancy tests can be very reliable. The problem is how the test is actually taken. Women who are nervous and anxious to get the results, often take the test too soon or incorrectly. In order to get an accurate result, you need to follow the instructions completely.

How Does A Pregnancy Test Work?

Once a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining, the placenta forms. The placenta provides nutrients and oxygen and begins producing a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG).

A pregnancy test measures the amount of hCG in your urine or your blood. This hormone increases rapidly, but if you take the test too soon, there won’t be enough hCG to detect. It’s better to wait a few days after your period was expected to start in order to get a more accurate result.

Is It Possible The Test Result Is Wrong?

There is a slight possibility that you can get an incorrect test result. The Mayo Clinic explains that up to 20% or more of known pregnancies actually end in a natural miscarriage. If you’ve miscarried, you may get a positive result on a pregnancy test and not be pregnant. Your body takes a little time to figure that out.

You can also get a negative result and actually be pregnant. Taking the test too early, checking the results too soon, not taking the test at the recommended time of day can all lead to a false-negative result.

If The Test Was Positive, What Should You Do?

A positive pregnancy test is only the beginning of the information you need. You might possibly need an ultrasound as well. With an ultrasound, you’ll find out if you’ve miscarried or not, how long you’ve been pregnant, and if the pregnancy is in the correct place.

Come to the Pregnancy Care Center even if you’ve taken an at-home test. We can verify your results with a free pregnancy test and schedule you for an ultrasound if necessary. Free pregnancy tests and free ultrasounds are just two of the services we offer because we care about you. Let’s journey down this road together. No one should have to do this alone. Call us today.
