Can I Stay in School While Pregnant?
Yes. Being pregnant does not mean you have to leave college or put your education on hold.
Under Title IX, colleges and universities that receive federal financial assistance cannot discriminate against students because of pregnancy or related conditions. Schools must also provide reasonable modifications when necessary, which may include changes related to class attendance, coursework, or other academic requirements.
Pregnancy Care Center specifically works with students and recognizes that continuing your education while pregnant is possible.
If you’re worried about how pregnancy could affect your housing, financial aid, classes, or other parts of campus life, contact your school’s Title IX coordinator or student services office to learn what resources and accommodations are available to you.
What If I’m Not Sure What I Want to Do?
Start with information about your pregnancy. At Pregnancy Care Center, a client advocate can administer a free pregnancy test and discuss the result with you. From there, you can ask questions and talk about your pregnancy options in a confidential setting.
You may also qualify for a free ultrasound. An ultrasound can provide additional information about your pregnancy, including how far along you are, whether the pregnancy is located in the uterus, and whether the pregnancy is developing.

What Could Parenting as a Student Look Like?
School and parenting can coexist, but having practical support can make a significant difference.
Pregnancy Care Center offers parenting and life-skills classes covering topics such as newborn care, breastfeeding, and budgeting. As you participate, you can earn credit toward new baby items from the center’s boutique. The center can also connect clients with information about community resources, including healthcare, food assistance, housing, and employment programs.
Your college may have resources of its own. Ask about family housing, childcare, financial assistance, lactation accommodations, academic modifications, or other programs available to pregnant and parenting students.
What About Adoption?
If parenting isn’t the only option you’re considering, you can also ask questions about adoption.
With adoption, you can learn about different adoption plans and receive referrals to adoption agencies and specialists. Pregnancy Care Center can discuss adoption with you without requiring you to commit.

Whatever questions you have, you can talk through them with a client advocate and learn more about the resources available for your circumstances.
Your Plans Still Matter
An unplanned pregnancy may change some of the questions you’re asking right now, but being pregnant does not erase the goals you had before you saw a positive test.
